This is true ONLY for non-negative values of x. Therefore, it is not an identity, is it? An identity is true for ALL values of the variable. I suppose you could say that if you are considering ONLY non-negative values of x, then it is an identity. I guess it depends upon what you mean by \"identity.\"\r
