You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Below is a lesson that I have made, but I do not believe that it has been published for the public yet.\r
\n" ); document.write( "\n" ); document.write( "Hello. My name is Adriane, and I would like to help you with your Algebra. Today's topic is going to be on *Absolute Value*. I am going to give you directions, so please follow along. If you get lost please feel free to message me. Get those pens ready and here we go!
\n" ); document.write( "DIRECTIONS:
\n" ); document.write( "The first thing you will need to do is pull out a piece of notebook paper and on on the third line down draw a number line, and number. Zero goes in the middle of course. On the right hand side please right 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and on the left hand side write -1, -2, -3, -4, and -5.
\n" ); document.write( "The absolute value of x, denoted \"| x |\" (and which is read as \"the absolute value of x\"), is the distance of x from zero. This is why absolute value is never negative; absolute value only asks \"how far?\", not \"in which direction?\". This means not only that | 3 | = 3, because 3 is three units to the right of zero, but also that | –3 | = 3, because –3 is three units to the left of zero.
\n" ); document.write( "NOTE: The absolute value notation is not brackets or parenthesis. They are strictly bars
\n" ); document.write( "It is important to note that the absolute value bars do NOT work in the same way as do parentheses. Whereas –(–3) = +3, this is NOT how it works for absolute value:
\n" ); document.write( "* Simplify –| –3 |.
\n" ); document.write( "Given –| –3 |, I first handle the absolute value part, taking the positive and converting the absolute value bars to parentheses:
\n" ); document.write( "–| –3 | = –(+3)
\n" ); document.write( "Now I can take the negative through the parentheses:
\n" ); document.write( "–| –3 | = –(3) = –3
\n" ); document.write( "As this illustrates, if you take the negative of an absolute value, you will get a negative number for your answer.
\n" ); document.write( "You have all done a great job today. If you still have questions or this didn't help you much please feel free to message me, and I will get back to you A.S.A.P
\n" ); document.write( "
