e = cost of an eraser

p = e + 0.25
8p + 10e = 12.80

Plug in the first equation into the second.

8(e + 0.25) + 10e = 12.80
18e = 12.78
e = 0.71

An eraser costs 71 cents and a pencil costs 96 cents.
