Question 830653: You are to ride a float in a parade and are trying to calculate how much soda you need to bring. You figure that you will need 1.5 sodas for every mile traveled. On a map where 1 inch = 1900 feet you measure the parade route to be 21.3 inches long. How many sodas do you need to bring?
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let's determine the distance first.
1 inch represents 1900 feet; therefore, 21.3 inches represents 40470 feet (21.3*1900).
How many feet in a mile? 5280
Divide 40470 by 5280 to get 7.66 miles (we'll call it 7 2/3)
For every mile you'll need 1.5 sodas.
Multiple miles (7 2/3) * 1.5 to get 11.5 sodas
.
These numbers are based on rounded to two decimal places.
