and width be w
w= 2l-4
So l(2l-4)=336
2l^2-4l=336
/2
l^2-2l=168
l^2-2l-168=0
l^2-14l+12l-168=0
l(l-14)+12(l-14)=0
(l-14)(l+12)=0
l=14 or l=-12
length cannot be negative
so
l=14
width = 336/14
=24
l= 14 inches
width = 24
