In Mexico, avacados are 48 pesos per kilogram. What is the cost, in cents, of an avacado that weighs 0.45 lb if the exchange rate is 14.4 pesos to the dollar?
.
Begin by converting the rate from pesos to dollars:
48 pesos per kilogram * (1 dollar per 14.4 pesos)
48/14.4 = 3.333 dollars per kilogram
.
Next convert kilograms to lbs:
3.333 dollars per kilogram * (1 kilogram per 2.2 lbs)
3.333/2.2 = 1.5152 dollars per lb
.
cost then is:
weight * rate
0.45 * 1.5152 = $0.68
or, if you want the cost in cents:
68 cents
