With 51 gallons of fuel in its tank, the airplane has a weight of 2280.5 pounds. What is the weight of the plane with 25 gallons of fuel in its tank?

This is exactly the same problem as:

Find a linear function that has a slope of 5.5 and which graph contains the point (51, 2280.5). Then evaluate

Use the point-slope form of an equation of a line:



where are the coordinates of the given point and is the given/calculated slope.





You really don't have to do any more to this for the purposes of the problem, but go ahead and simplify it as pleases you.
