a plane flies 435 miles with the wind and 345 miles against the wind in the same length of time . If the speed of the wind is 15mph , find the speed of the plane in still air
...
plane speed in still air = x mph
with wind speed = x+15
against wind speed = x-15.
..
time = distance /speed
with wind time = 435/x+15
against wind time = 345/x-15
..
times are same
..
435(x-15)=345(x+15)
435x-6525=345x+5175
435x-345x=6525+5175
90x=11700
x= 11700/90
x= 130 mph speed of plane in still air
