mercury has a density of 13.6 grams/centimeter cubed. What mass of mercury would be required to cover a football playing surface of 100 yards by 70 yards to a depth of 0.20 centimeters? given 1 inch=2.54 centimeters.
------------------
Find the volume.
100 yds = 300 ft = 3600 inches = 9144 cm
70 yds = 210 ft = 2520 inches = 6400.8 cm
Volume = 9144*6400.8*0.2 = 11705783.04 cc
Mass = Volume*Density = 11705783.04*13.6
Mass = 159198649.3 grams
= 159198 kilograms
= 159.198 metric tons, or tonnes
