You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(8 quarts)*(1 gallon)/(4 quarts)=2 gallons.
Note that by multiplying 8 quarts by (1 gallon)/(4 quarts), we are just multiplying by 1. However, the "quarts" units cancel leaving only gallons.

My question asks me to show how to convert 8 quarts to gallons using a unit multiplier. (1 gal = 4 qt)
I know the answer but I am having trouble writing the conversion.

Put 8qt over 1

((8qt)/1)

Now we use 1gal=4qt to make a unit fraction, that is,
one which equals 1. We have to choose which of these unit
fractions we need to multiply by. Our choices are the unit
fractions ((1gal)/(4qt)) and ((4qt)/(1gal)). We will choose the one with qt
on the bottom to multiply by, so that it will cancel
with the qt in the numerator. So we multiply by ((1gal)/(4qt))

((8qt)/1)((1gal)/(4qt))

Now we cancel the qt's:

((8cross(qt))/1)((1gal)/(4cross(qt)))

We can also cancel the 4 into the 8 and get 2
 2
((cross(8)cross(qt))/1)((1gal)/(cross(4)cross(qt)))

That leaves

(2*1gal)/1

or

2gal
