Question 420495: A player hits a baseball at a 45 degree angle with the ground with an initial velocity of 80 feet per second from a height of three feet above the ground. The equation h=-0.005x^2+x+3 gives the path of the ball, where h is the height and x is the horizontal distance the ball travels.
What is the equation of the axis of symmetry? (my answer was x=-b/2a=-1/-0.01=100)(Is that right?)
What is the maximum height reached by the baseball? (my answer was 53 feet)
An outfielder catches the ball three feet above the ground. How far has the ball traveled horizontally when the outfielder catches it?
(I'm confused on how to do this problem. I thought you would just put 3 in for the h, but I don't know where to go from there.)
I'd really appreciate if you could help me with this problem!
Thank you!
