Question 999682: A train travels east from Chicago at 6 pm at 45 mph (EST). A train travels west from Cleveland
at 35 mph at 7 pm (EST). If the cities are 285 miles apart and the trains are barreling toward
each other on a collision path, at what time will they collide?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Train I 45 mph 6.00 PM
Train II 35 mph 7.00 PM 1 hours late
Distance 285 miles
1 hours train I travels 45 miles before Train II starts
So distance = 240 plane starts
Let time they take to meet be x hours
t=d/r
combined speed= 80 mph
80 x = 240
x= 3.00 hours
They meet at 10.00 pm
