Question 999227: A train leaves Columbia heading due west at 80 mph at 8 am. A helicopter leaves at 9:30 am going due west at 120 mph. At what time will the helicopter overtake the train?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
distance travelled by both are same when they meet
speed car = 80 time = t
speed helicopter = 120 mph. time = t-1.5
80t = 120(t-1.5)
80t = 120t - 180
40t = 180
t= 4.5 hours
add 4.5 hours to 9.30
ie 2.00 pm
