Question 996247: A train leaves New York for Boston, 200 miles away, at 3:00 P.M. and averages 60 mph. Another train leaves Boston for New York on an adjacent set of tracks at 4:00 P.M. and averages 60 mph. At what time will the trains meet?
Answer by fractalier(6550)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The first train covers 60 miles between 3 and 4 pm. So at 4 pm, the trains are only 140 miles apart. Since they travel at the same rate, they will meet when they have each covered half the 140, or 70 miles. At 60 miles per hour, it takes 70 minutes to cover 70 miles. Thus they will meet at 5:10 pm.
