Question 994424: I really need help deciphering this word problem:
Flying with the wind a plane went 299 mph. Flying into the same wind the plane only went 233 mph. What is the speed of the wind? How fast would the plane go if there were no wind?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
still air speed=x
wind speed =c
x+c=299
x-c=233
Add them
2x=532
x=266, dividing by 2 both sides.That is the speed of the plane in still air.
