Question 992955: Two planes left at the same time for two airports that are 3600 miles apart and flew toward each other. in 4 hours, they passed each other. The rate of the fast plane was twice the rate of the slow plane. find the rate of each plane.
Answer by anand429(138)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let rate of slow plane be s mph
The, rate of fast plane = 2s mph
Now they pass in 4 hrs,
So, s*4 + 2s*4 = 3600
=> 12*s = 3600
=> s= 300 mph
So, speeds of planes are 300 mph and 600 mph.
