A car and a bicycle were travelling towards each other.if the car travels at the rate of 20 km/hr and the bicycle, 15 km/hr and if distance between them is 140 kilometres, how long will they meet each other?
================
The speeds are added when going in opposite directions.
20 + 15 = 35 km/hr
----
d = r*t
t = d/r

Answer by macston(5194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Add the speeds of the car and bike:
20km/hr+15km/hr=35km/hr
They are approaching each other at 35km/hr.
.
How long will it take them to cover 140km at 35km/hr?
140km/(35km/hr)=4 hours
ANSWER: They will meet in 4 hours.

Answer.  t = = = 4 hours.

Solution

Let  t  be the time they travel before to meet each the other.

Then the car will cover  20*t  kilometers,  and the bicycle will cover  15*t  kilometers.

The sum of these distances is exactly  140 km.

So, you have an equation

20*t + 15*t = 140.

Solve it:

(20 + 15)*t = 140,

35*t = 140,

t = = 4 hours.
