Question 987783: Problem: Suppose two trains leave Corpus Christi, Texas, at the same time, traveling in opposite directions. One train travels 10 mph faster than the other. In 2.5 hours, the trains are 205 miles apart. Find the speed of each train.
I have tried working this out in several different ways and keep coming out with 45 & 55 but that's not the answer and can't understand where I'm going wrong. This is the process that I used is the r*t=d

205mi/2.5hrs=82 mph The sum of the speeds is 82mph

S+F=82mph
S+S+10mph=82mph
2S=72mph
S=36mph ANSWER 1: The speed of the slower train is 36 mph.
