Question 986415: A 265.8 lbf chest is at rest on the floor. You push it horizontally with a force of 174.7 N, but it does not budge. What is the magnitude of the contact force on the chest due to the floor during the time you are pushing?
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20065)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The friction force is equal and opposite to the force exerted,
so it would be -174.7 N. We aren't told the coefficient of
friction between the chest and the floor, so we cannot calculate
how many Newtons of force it would take to make the chest budge.
