Question 985214: Two cars are moving at constant velocity toward each other. Initially the cars are separated by 32.4 miles. Car A has a velocity of 10.1 mph and car B has a velocity of 13.9 mph.
What will be the distance between the cars 5.5 minutes later?
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
(5.5 minutes)(1hr/60min)=0.092hr
Car A travels: (0.092hr)(10.1ni/hr)=0.93 miles
Car B travels: (0.092hr)(13.9mi/hr)=1.28 miles
Both: 0.93 miles + 1.28 miles =2.21 miles
The cars are 2.21 miles closer together.
.
Distance apart = 32.4 miles-2.21 miles=30.19 miles
.
ANSWER: After 5.5 minutes the card are 30.19 miles apart.
