Question 978164: You toss a ball that travels on the path y= -0.1x^2 +x+2 where x and y are measured in meters. Sketch the path of the ball. How high does the ball go. I know I studied algebra in 8th grade, but I don't remember solving hard problems like these so please help me it would really be helpful. Thank you
Answer by josgarithmetic(39618)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Eighth-grade Algebra may not be as much as Intermediate Algebra. You may know little more than to pick several x values and compute the corresponding y values, and then plot the resulting (x,y) ordered pair points.

Other than read and study Introductory Algebra, and then Intermediate Algebra, from good textbooks, you can use this available lesson:

WHERE DOES GRAPH CROSS OR TOUCH x-AXIS?
Use general solution to a quadratic equation.

DOES GRAPH HAVE MINIMUM OR DOES IT HAVE A MAXIMUM VERTEX?
Qualitative knowledge about parabolas.

WHAT IS VERTEX POINT?
Complete The Square to put equation into Standard Form, and read the data for the vertex directly from the equation in standard form.
