A ship can cruise at 42 km/h in calm waters,set course due south.It is driven off course by a current flowing East 22 degrees North at a velocity of 7.2 km/h.
Calculate resultant velocity of the ship in magnitude and direction. Also the distance cruised after 5 hours
--------
resultant x-coordinate:: 5*42(cos(270))+5*7.2cos(22 degrees) = 33.38 km
resultant y-coordinate:: 5*42(sin(270))+5*7.2sin(22 degrees)] = -196.51 km
======
distance = sqrt[33.38^2 + 196.51^2] km
----
direction:: arctan(-196.51/33.38] = 279.64 degrees or
80.36 degrees south of east
