Question 974078: Karen is driving to New Orleans. Suppose that the remaining distance to drive (in miles) is a linear function of her driving time (in minutes). When graphed, the function gives a line with a slope of
−0.85
Karen has
48
miles remaining after
50
minutes of driving. How many miles will be remaining after
66
minutes of driving?

I make a graph with made up miles but the slope is real. This allows me to visualize the problem.
Every 10 minutes, she has 8.5 fewer miles to go. That is a slope of -0.85
She has 48 miles left after 50 minutes. In 16 minutes, she is going to drive 16*0.85=13.60 miles
She will have 48-13.6=34.4 miles
