Answer by JoelSchwartz(130)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
t=the time it took to get to the destination traveling forty miles per hour.
x=amount of time it took to return home from the destination traveling twenty five miles per hour.
t+1+x=7.5
t+x=6.5
d=number of miles each way
40t=d
25x=d
25x=40t
t=6.5-x
25x=40(6.5-x)
25x=260-40x
65x=260
x=4
d=25*4
The trip is 100 miles to the destination. To go back to where the person started from it would take 200 miles of traveling.

---------------
Avg RT speed = 2*40*25/(40+25) = 400/13 mi/hr
6.5 hours driving
d = r*t = (400/13)*(13/2) = 200 miles RT
100 miles each way
