West-bound DATA:
Rate = x+5 mph ; time = 6 hrs. ; distance = 6(x+5) = 6x+30 miles
--------------------
East-bound DATA:
Rate = x mph ; time = 6 hrs. ; distance = 6x miles
----------------------
EQUATION:
distance + distance = 246 miles
6x+30 + 6x = 246
12x = 216
x = 18 mph (rate of East-bound cyclist)
x+5 = 23 mph (rate of West-bound cyclist)
