Question 951294: Working alone, Jess can rake the leaves off a lawn in 50 minutes. Working alone Tate can do the same job in 30 minutes. Today they are going to work together, jess starting at one end of the lawn and Tate starting simultaneously at the other end. In how many minutes will they meet and have the lawn completely raked?
Answer by macston(5194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jess rakes 1 lawn/50 min=1/50 lawn/min
Tate rakes 1 lawn/30 min=1/30 lawn/min
Together they rake 1/50 lawn/min + 1/30 lawn/min=(3/150 + 5/150)lawn/min=8/150 lawn/min.
1 lawn /8/150 lawn/min=18.75 min
ANSWER: Together they can rake the yard in 18.75 minutes.
