Jane leaves her house and drives in a straight line at a speed of 55 mph. Her speed on the return trip is 65 mph.
Let x = Distance of her trip
The trip back home takes 13 minutes less than the outbound trip
Time for outbound = x/55
Time for return trip = x/65
equation : x/55-x/65=13/60
x=1859/24 or 77.46
Jane's total travel time in hours = 1859/(24*55) + 1859/(24*55) = 169/60 hours or 169 minutes

***
let x=distance traveled (same for outbound trip and return trip home)
distance/speed=travel time
x/55-x/65=13/60 (trip back home takes 13 minutes less than the outbound trip.)
miles
travel time=distance/speed
(sum of travel time for both trips)
What was Jane's total travel time in hours? 2.6
