There is more than one way to interpret the problem. Does the 14.7 seconds
include the first 6.4 seconds? Or does the 14.7 seconds start after the first
6.4 seconds? Even if we knew that, it wouldn't help. What happens after the
first 6.4 seconds? Does the car continue to accelerate after the first 6.4
seconds for the next quarter mile and 14.7 seconds? Or does it stop accelerating
when it gets up to 60 mph and then continue at the constant speed of 60 mph for
the next 14.7 seconds and a quarter mile? Also, does the quarter mile include the
distance required to get up to 60 mph. If it continues to accelerate after the
first 6.4 seconds it would have to accelerate at a different rate over the next
quarter mile. But if it didn't continue to accelerate then the answer to the
last question would be "It is obviously still going at 60 mph". There is just
no way to interpret the problem as stated in only one way. Sorry.
