Question 933915: The speed of an air plane is 500 miles per hour. The plane traveled 700 miles along the direction of the air in the same amount of time that it took to travel 420 miles against the air. What is the speed of the air?
Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
w = windspeed
700/(500 + w) = 420/(500 - w)
700*(500 - w) = 420*(500 + w)
10*(500 - w) = 6*(500 + w)
5000 - 10w = 3000 + 6w
w = 125 mi/hr
