Question 928589: A group of coworkers drove a car and a minivan to a conference. The car left first and traveled 50 mph. The minivan left 1/2 hour later and traveled at 60 mph. How long will it take the minivan to catch up to the car?
Answer by TimothyLamb(4379)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
distance traveled by the car when the minivan departs:
s = d/t
d = st
d = 50*0.5
d = 25 miles
---
speed of minivan relative to the car:
60 - 50 = 10 mph
---
time it will take the minivan to catch up to the car:
s = d/t
t = d/s
t = 25 miles / 10 mph
t = 2.5 hours
