Question 926034: From a point on a straight bicycle tail. Reese and Rachel ride bicycles in opposite directions. Rees's speed is 2 miles per hour slower than Rachel's. If they are 50 miles apart in 2.5 hours, what is the speed of each bicyclist?
Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x be Rachel's rate, then Reese's rate is x-2 and we have the following equation
(x-2)*2.5 + x*2.5 = 50
2.5x -5 +2.5x = 50
5x = 55
x = 11
Reese's rate is 9 mph and Rachel's rate is 11 mph
