Question 921588: A plane left emerald city flying at an average rate of 270 mph. Two hours later, another plane left Emerald city in the same direction at 420 mph. How long will the second plane flying till catches up with the first?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Gaining speed 420-270= 150 mph
Head start 270*2 =540 miles
Time to catch up 540/150=3.6 hours
Algebraic solution
270(t+2)=420t
270t+540=420t
540=420t-270t
540=150t
t=3.6 hours
Distance to meeting 3.6*420=1512 miles
