By air the distance between city a and city b is 3001 miles less than city C to city D. If the total of these two distances is 7849 find the distance from city C to City D
I have divided it by 2 and then taken the 3001 away but I am stuck!
Please show me how to do this and not just answer it! Thanks Amber

It would've been better if you'd shown what you did. Maybe I could've pointed out your error or the
reason why you got stuck. You may be able to find your own mistake though.
Let distance between city C and city D be C
Then distance between city A and city B = C – 3,001
Since total of the distances is 7,849, then we get: C + C – 3,001 = 7,849
2C = 7,849 + 3,001
2C = 10,850
C, or distance between cities C and D = , or miles
