Question 913559: A car leaves Fort Wayne heading south going 65 mph. A half an hour later another car leaves Fort Wayne heading in the same direction but going 70 mph. How long will it take for the second car to catch up to the first car?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Car I speed= 65 mph
Car II speed= 70 mph
Time difference between the starting of the two= 0.50 hours
Time taken by Car I = X / 65
Time taken by Car II = X / 70
X / 65 - X / 70 = 0.5
LCD - 90
Multiply equation by 90 90
1.38 x - 1.29 x = 45
0.1 x = 45
/ 0.1
x= 455 miles
Car II speed= 70 mph
Distance = 455 miles
Time taken = 455 / 70
Time taken = 6.5 hour to catch up
