Question 912723: At 8 am , Madge leaves home on a business trip traveling an incredible 35 mph. A half hour later, Dorkus discovers that Madge forgot her briefcase. Unable to operate a cell phone, he hopes on his Harley and guns it, only to realized he forgot the briefcase as well. Finally , 15 minutes after he realized she left without the case, he zooms down the highway at a reckless 59 mph. When will he catch up with Madge? ( provided he knows which way she went, which may not be a good assumption to make ...)
Can you please help me solve this problem. I got very confuse when I was reading it and I didn't know where to even start.

At 8 am , Madge leaves home on a business trip traveling an incredible 35 mph.
--------------------------
A half hour later, Dorkus discovers that Madge forgot her briefcase.
Unable to operate a cell phone, he hopes on his Harley and guns it, only to realized he forgot the briefcase as well.
-----------------------
Finally , 15 minutes after he realized she left without the case, he zooms down the highway at a reckless 59 mph.
-------------------------
When will he catch up with Madge?
Madge DATA
total time:: (1/2) hr + (1/4)hr + t hrs = (3/4)+t hrs
Rate:::: 35 mph
Total distance::: 35[(3/4)+t] miles
---------
Dorkus DATA:
time = t hrs
rate = 59 mph
distance::: 59t miles
---------------------------
Equation:
distance = distance
35[(3/4)+t] = 59t
----
35(3/4) + 35t = 59t
24t = 26.25
time = 1.09375 hrs
----
Ans: 9:00 + 1.09 hrs = 10.05 AM

Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Madge speed = 35 mph
In half hour she travels 17.5 miles
In 3/4 hours she is 26.25 miles away
difference in their speeds = 59-35 = 24 mph
I presume the time is 3/4 hour when he starts to catch up
she would be 26.25 miles away
catch up time = 26.25/24
=1.09
0.09*60= 5.4 minutes
He catches up at 9.06 am.
