Question 909418: A train leaves a station and travels at 50 miles per hour. Fifteen minutes later, a second train leaves the same station and travels in the same direction on parallel tracks at 60 miles per hour. How long will it be before the second train overtake the first?
Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Gaining speed 60 -50= 10 mph
Headstart 50*0.25 =12.5 miles
Time to catch up 12.5/10=1.25 hours
Algebraic solution
50(t+0.25)=60t
50t+12.5=60t
12.5=60t-50t
12.5=10t
t=1.25 hours
Distance to meeting 1.25*60=75 miles
