Question 908882: A car leaves Oakland for Las Vegas traveling an average of 40mph. Two hours later, a truck leaves the same place in Oakland for Las Vegas at 60mph. How long will it be before the truck overtakes the car?
Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Gaining speed 60 -40= 20 mph
Headstart 40*1 =40 miles
Time to catch up 40/20=2 hours
Algebraic solution
40(t+1)=60t
40t+40=60t
40=60t-40t
40=20t
t=2 hours
Distance to meeting 2*60=120 miles
