I thought the answer would be 2 miles but after I did the work, it told me the answer was 4 miles and i can't figure out why.

traveling 8 miles north than 6 miles west makes a right triangle with a hypotenuse of 10 miles.
hypotenuse=√(8^2)+(6^2)=√(64+36)=√100=10 (this is the straight line from home to your work)
distance saved=14-10=4
