Question 886044: Police chased a suspect vehicle for 150 miles traveling at a speed of 75 miles per hour. After apprehending the suspect, they made the same trip back to the police station at 50 miles per hour. What was the average speed the squad car was traveling for the entire trip?
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
They spent 2 hours chasing him (150 miles / 75 mph)
After they caught him (hooray for our thin blue line!), they traveled 150 miles / 50 mph, or 3 hours.
Total distance = 150+150 = 300
Total time = 2 hours + 3 hours = 5 hours
300 miles / 5 hours = 60 mph average
