Question 883505: A motorcycle driver travels 15 kph faster than a bicycle driver. The motorcycle driver covers 60 kilometers in two hours less than the time it takes the bicycle driver to travel the same distance. Determine whether or not each situation illustrates a quadratic equation. Justify your answer by representing each situation by a mathematical sentence.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Bicycle speed =x
time taken for 60 km = 60/x
motorbike speed = x+15
time taken for 60 km = 60/(x+15)
multiply by x(x+15)
60(x+15)-60x =2x(x+15)
60x+90-60x=2x^2+30x
2x^2+30x-90 =0
/2
x^2+15x-45=0
degree two so quadratic equation
