Question 883464: hello can someone solve this word problem for me please?

Two cities are 2920 miles apart. A plane leaves one of them, traveling towards the other at an average speed of 350 miles per hour. At the same time a plane leaves the other, traveling towards the first, at an average speed of 380 miles per hour. How long will it take them to meet?
The two planes meet in ? hours

Answer by LinnW(1048)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The planes are moving towards each other at the sum of the two speeds.
( 350 + 380 ) miles per hour is the rate they are approaching each other.
350 + 380 = 730
2920/730 = time in hours till they meet.
2920/730 = 4 hours
