Question 883417: Two trains travel at right angles to each other after leaving the same train station at the same time. Two hours later they are 34 miles apart. If one travels 7 miles per hour slower than the other, what is the rate of the faster train?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Their speeds are r and r+7, in miles per hour.
The distance traveled for each in the 2 hours are r*2 and (r+7)*2.

The distance are part of a right triangle, so Pythagorean Theorem will relate the three distances.

Solve for r. Find r+7.
