Question 872345: A small airplane takes the same amount of time to fly 200 miles against a 30-mph wind as it does to fly 300-mph wind. Find the speed of the airplane in still air.

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Plane speed x mph with no wind
wind speed 30 mph

against wind x - 30 mph
with wind x + 30 mph

Distance against wind 200
Distance with wind 300
Time = same equate the time against with time with current
t=d/r
200 /(x- 30 )= 300 /(x+ 30 )
200 *(x+ 30 )= 300 *(x- 30 )
200 x + 6000 = 300 x -9000
200 x -300 x = -9000 + -6000
-100 x = -15000
/ -100
x= 150 mph
