A bus leaves the station at 1 PM, traveling west at 44 mph. One hour later, a second bus leaves the same station traveling east at 48 mph. At what time will the buses be 274 miles apart?
***
let x=travel time of first bus
x-1=travel time of second bus
distance=travel time*speed
..
44x+48(x-1)=274
44x+48x-48=274
92x=322
x=3.5
buses will be 274 miles apart after 3.5 hrs or at 4:30 PM
