At noon, the hot air ballon headed north at 8 miles per hour. Three hours later, the glider headed south from the same location at 16 miles per hour. At what time will the hot air ballon be 168 miles from the glider?
------------
Ballon DATA:
rate = 8mph ; time = x hr ; distance = 8x miles
---------------
Glider DATA:
rate = 16mph ; time = x-3 ; distance = 16(x-3) miles
--------------------
EQUATION:
distance + distance = 168 miles
8x + 16x-48 = 168
24x = 216
x= 9 hrs.
noon + 9 hrs = 9;00 PM
