Question 867898: Two high speed trains are 500 miles apart and traveling toward each other. They meet in 2 hours. If one train's speed is 15 miles per hour faster than the other, find the speed of each train.
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Train I speed -------------x mph
Train II-------------------(x+15) mph
Moving towards each other
so effective speed = x+x+15 = 2x+15 mph
Distance = 500 miles
Time = 2 hours
d=rt
500 = (2x+15)*2
/2
250=2x+15
-15, -15
235=2x
/2
x=117.5 mph
Train I speed =117.50 mph
Train II speed ------add 15 to train I speed
