Question 860879: Jay bell made a recent business trip to Iowa, a distance of 450 miles, which required him to travel first by bus then by train. His bus averaged 45 miles per hour while his train traveled 90 miles per hour. If he traveled for a total of 6 hours, how many hours did he travel by train?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
By bus --------x miles
By train 450-x miles
t= d/r
Time by bus + time by train = 6 hours
x/45 + (450-x)/90=6
(90x+45(450-x)/ (45*90))=6
90x+20250-45x=6*45*90
45x=4050
x=90
450-90=360 miles by train
train speed = 90
time train = 360/90=4 hours
