Question 859412: On a mother's 22-mile commute to work, she drops her daughter off at a child care center. The first part of the trip is 6 miles less than the second part. How long is each part of her morning commute?
Answer by Awesom3guy(31) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Call the first part x and the second y.
And
The first part of the trip is 6 miles less than the second part.
Now substitute in the place of x in the first equation and solve for y.
Plug this value in the place of any equation to solve for x.
The first part of her commute is 8 miles long and the second 14.
