Question 857568: A plane flies due east for 210 miles and then due south for 100 miles. How far is the plane from the starting point.
Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It's a right triangle.
The legs are 210 and 100.
You're being asked to find the hypotenuse.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
100^2 + 210^2 = c^2
10,000 + 44,100 = c^2
54,100 = c^2
Take the square root of each side
232.59 = c
.
(strange answer; check my math using the method, but it seems right)
