Question 85281: Ariana took 2 h longer to drive 360 mi on the first day of a trip than she took to drive 270 mi on the second day. If her speed was the same on both days, what was the driving time each day?
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
speed(1) = speed(2)
d(1)/t(1) = d(2)/t(2)
d(1) = 360
t(1) = t(2) + 2
d(2) = 270
360/(t(2)+2) = 270/t(2)
(say t(2)=t for simplicity)
360t = 270t + 540
90t = 540
t = 6 hrs answer
t+2 = 8 hrs answer
So, the 1st part of the trip took 8 hrs, and the 2nd part took 6 hrs
